Harvard Referencing Guide How to cite sources in your assignments, in Cite Them Right Harvard. Read this before your first assignment. Referencing is the single most common thing students lose marks on, and it is a format to copy rather than something to work out. Term dates and attendance When you are due in, and what your attendance record shows. Attendance forms part of your qualification, so it is worth checking rather than assuming. Policies Extensions, appeals, complaints, safeguarding and the rest. Worth knowing where these are before you need one, particularly the extensions policy.

Writing your assignments

zotero logo 1 Zotero Free (opens in a new tab) A reference manager. It saves your sources and writes your reference list for you. Save an article once and Zotero inserts the citation as you write, then builds the list at the end. Our Referencing Guide explains how to set it up. word logo Microsoft Word (opens in a new tab) The word processor most students write their assignments in. Zotero adds a toolbar to Word so citations go in as you type. There is a free version of Word online if you do not have Office installed. googledocs logo Google Docs Free (opens in a new tab) A free word processor that runs in your browser and saves as you go. Useful if you move between devices, or if you have ever lost work to a crash. Zotero works with it too. Export to Word before you submit. speechify logo Speechify (opens in a new tab) Reads text out loud, including PDFs and web pages. Request an extension Ask for more time on an assignment. Ask before the deadline, not after. An early request is a conversation; a late one is a problem. Accessibility and study support What we can adjust, and how to ask. If reading, writing or attending is harder for you than it should be, start here. Counselling training asks you to look at your own material, and that is not always comfortable. A sensible place to start if it is getting heavy. Submit an assignment Where your finished work goes. Placements and work

Read this before you accept anything.
