Returning to Study as an Adult

People come to counselling training from all kinds of starting points. Some arrive with years of study behind them and a feeling that something is still missing. Others are making a completely fresh start. What they almost all have in common is a quiet uncertainty before they walk through the door for the first time.

That uncertainty is completely normal. And in most cases it disappears faster than people expect.

This course is not just for people who have never studied before

Some of our students hold degrees, masters qualifications, or professional certifications in related fields. They come to us because prior study gave them the theory but not the tools to apply it in a real therapeutic setting. If that sounds familiar, you are in the right place.

What makes counselling training different from most academic study is that it works on two levels simultaneously. You are learning a body of knowledge, yes, but you are also developing yourself as a practitioner. Those two things are inseparable, and the course is designed to hold both at the same time.

From day one you will feel supported. That is not a promise we make lightly. It is something our students tell us consistently, regardless of where they started from. The teaching environment is warm, structured, and genuinely invested in your progress. Week on week you will find yourself learning more than you imagined possible, not just about counselling theory but about yourself.

What returning learners tell us

1

They felt supported from the start

Not after a few weeks once they had settled in. From day one. The environment is designed to make that possible, and the people around you are going through the same experience.

2

They learned more than they expected

The breadth of the course consistently surprises people. The integrative approach means you are not locked into a single way of thinking. You draw on multiple modalities and build a rich, flexible understanding of how people work.

3

It helped them personally as well as professionally

This one catches people off guard. Students come to train as counsellors and find that the journey changes them too. The self-awareness you develop as a practitioner does not stay in the classroom.

4

They made genuine friendships

The connections formed in counselling training tend to go deeper than most educational settings. You are exploring meaningful territory together, and that creates bonds that last well beyond graduation.

Whether you are here because counselling has always called to you, because you have studied psychology and want somewhere to put it into practice, or simply because something in you says this is the right direction, the experience of those who have already made this journey is consistent.

“Each week it was a place to feel safe, supported. I’ve gained so many friends and so much knowledge and experience that I’ll be forever grateful for this journey.”

In the next lesson we will look at what a typical week actually involves, what happens in the room, and what is available to you outside of it.
