A Taster of What to Expect

The next three lessons are a little different from everything you have covered so far. Up until now this course has been about you, how you learn, how you see yourself, and whether returning to study feels like the right move. Now we want to give you a genuine feel for what the course itself is actually like.

Each of the following lessons takes a snippet directly from one of our online course module material, so you can experience a real piece of the diploma before you commit to anything.

Something important to understand first

The online element of the Level 5 Diploma represents only around 20 to 30 percent of the overall course. The vast majority of your learning happens face to face, in the room, with your tutor and your fellow students. The online modules are there to support and extend that in-person work, not to replace it.

What that means is that the snippets you are about to see give you a feel for one part of the experience, the structured online content, but they cannot fully capture what happens in the classroom. The discussions, the practical skills work, the relationships you build with your group, the moments when something clicks because a tutor explains it in just the right way at just the right time. Those things can only happen in person.

What the online content does is give you a foundation to bring into those sessions, so that the in-person time can go deeper and further than it could otherwise.

What you are about to see

1

A counselling skill in action

A demonstration of one of the most powerful and least understood skills in counselling practice. It will probably challenge the way you instinctively want to respond to someone who is struggling.

2

A model for understanding yourself and others

A simple but remarkably powerful tool that has been used in counselling and personal development for decades. Once you have seen it you will start noticing it everywhere.

3

An introduction to the self

The very first topic every student explores on the diploma. A brief but genuinely thought-provoking look at a question that sounds simple but turns out to be anything but.

When you are ready, mark this lesson as complete and move on to the first taster.
